Tjakie Naudé is Professor of Private Law and an NRF-rated researcher. Her main fields of interest are the Law of Contract, including Specific Contracts, Comparative Law and Consumer Protection. She teaches the Law of Contract with Dale Hutchison as well as Sale, Lease and Consumer Protection. She received her BA and LLB degrees cum laude from the University of Stellenbosch, and was awarded the Hofmeyr van der Merwe medal for the graduating LLB student who performed the best in the degree programme. After qualifying as an attorney and working for a Lloyd's syndicate in Edinburgh, Scotland, she returned to Stellenbosch as a Lecturer. She completed a doctorate on preference contracts (rights of first refusal) under the supervision of Professor Gerhard Lubbe. Part of the research for her doctorate was conducted at the Chair of Professor Reinhard Zimmermann in Regensburg, Germany, during 2001. During 2006 she was a visiting fellow at the Oxford Institute of European and Comparative Law, where she undertook comparative research on unfair contract terms legislation and on standard contract terms more generally. She also undertook comparative research on the incorporation of standard terms into contracts at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Private Law in Hamburg during 2006. She joined UCT in January 2009. She is a co-editor of the looseleaf Commentary on the Consumer Protection Act, published by Juta.
