Alton Samuels

I was born in the Stellenbosch, where I also completed my primary, secondary and tertiary education. I obtained an LLB (2008) and LLM (2010) at Stellenbosch University. I spent three years (2008-2011) as a research intern at the South African Chair in Property Law hosted by Stellenbosch University under the guidance of the late Prof AJ van der Walt.

I am also an LLD candidate at Stellenbosch University under the guidance of Prof Marius De Waal as my supervisor. The topic of my thesis is entitled: ‘A comparative analysis of mechanisms to address non-compliance with testamentary formalities, with special emphasis on the position in South African law.’

I previously lectured in law faculties at North-West University and the University of the Western Cape.

I am an admitted advocate and a member of the Cape Bar. I have a civil litigation practice with a keen interest in the law of Succession and Property law.

I love reading, watching and playing sports (cricket, football and rugby) and enjoy singing in a church choir.
